Memory exhaustion via nested SSL TLV reference leak
Published Jun 12, 2026 · Updated Jun 12, 2026
Memory exhaustion in Netty before 4.1.135.Final and 4.2.0.Final through 4.2.14.Final allows remote attackers to interrupt service. The HAProxy PROXY v2 decoder mishandles reference counts for depth-two nested PP2_TYPE_SSL TLVs, leaving its cumulation ByteBuf pinned after successful parsing. Exploitation requires an application to expose this codec to untrusted PROXY headers; repeated connections exhaust heap or native memory and terminate service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
