Service crash via uncaught recursive-link RangeError
Published Jul 14, 2026 · Updated Jul 14, 2026
Uncaught exception in recursive link validation in hapi.js joi before 17.13.4 and 18.0.0 through 18.2.0 allows remote attackers to crash a service. The link validator recursively calls $_validate on nested values without trapping the RangeError raised when the runtime call stack is exhausted. Exploitation requires a consuming service to accept attacker-controlled nested input, use a recursive link() schema, and call validate() without try/catch in a request handler.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
