Application crash via rotated tile-coordinate underflow
Published Jul 22, 2026 · Updated Jul 22, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in libheif 1.19.0 through 1.21.2 allows remote attackers to crash decoding applications via crafted HEIF files. ImageItem::transform_requested_tile_position_to_original_tile_position subtracts caller-controlled tile coordinates from pre-rotation unsigned dimensions without bounds checks, causing underflow; ImageItem_Grid::decode_grid_tile then indexes m_grid_tile_ids without a release-build bounds check. A user or service must decode a non-square grid image with an irot property; the demonstrated result is a reliable process crash, while the four-byte read is not a direct external disclosure primitive.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
