Denial of service via unbounded SpEL exponentiation
Published Aug 27, 2026 · Updated Aug 27, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Spring Framework allows attackers to interrupt applications that evaluate user-controlled SpEL expressions. The SpEL power operator performs BigInteger or BigDecimal exponentiation without bounding the exponent, consuming a thread and JVM heap for minutes to hours. Exploitation requires a reachable BigInteger or BigDecimal value in the evaluation context; the bounded consequence is application degradation or unavailability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <=5.2.25.RELEASE
