Unauthenticated superuser access via retained default credentials
Published Jun 18, 2026 · Updated Jun 18, 2026
Hard-coded credentials in affected Bitnami Apache Cassandra 4.0.x, 4.1.x, and 5.0.x images allow remote attackers to gain superuser access. When CASSANDRA_USER defines a custom administrator, the container initialization script creates that account but does not drop the built-in cassandra account. Network access to the CQL port and knowledge of cassandra:cassandra are sufficient to read, write, or delete all keyspace data and alter cluster topology.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=4.0.0 <4.0.20-photon-5-r7
- Affected versionversion=4.1.0 <4.1.11-photon-5-r7
- Affected versionversion=5.0.0 <5.0.8-photon-5-r4
