CVE-2026-47842Network attack vector

Ciphertext correlation via all-zero CBC initialization vector

Published Aug 26, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

Weak IV generation in Spring Security allows attackers with read access to encrypted data to correlate identical plaintext values. AesBytesEncryptor's two-argument constructor, and CBC mode with a null IV generator, use an all-zero IV, so a given password and salt yield identical ciphertext for identical plaintext. Exploitation requires read access to the encrypted data store and exposes equality patterns while enabling offline dictionary comparisons.
