CVE-2026-47699Network attack vectorHinoki check available

Arbitrary file write via absolute hardlink path

Published Aug 18, 2026 · Updated Aug 18, 2026

Path traversal in Confidential Containers Guest Components before 0.20.0 allows attackers to write files via a crafted OCI image layer. In image-rs/src/stream/unpack.rs, try_hardlink_fallback() validates the hardlink source but trusts file.path() for the destination and joins an absolute tar entry path with Path::join, so fs::hard_link can create a hardlink outside the unpack directory. Reachability depends on control of trusted workload image content in CoCo, so the issue is a workload-owner escape into the pod VM that can expose pod-VM capabilities and attestation material rather than a general image trust-boundary bypass.
