Hash disclosure via non-constant-time comparison
Published May 20, 2026 · Updated May 20, 2026
Timing side channel in Crypt::SaltedHash 0.09 and earlier allows remote attackers to infer hash values through repeated validation requests. Crypt::SaltedHash::validate compares generated and stored hashes with Perl's short-circuiting eq operator, so response time varies with the matching prefix. Exploitation requires a consuming application to expose repeated, measurable validation attempts; the bounded consequence is indirect disclosure of the compared hash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
