Kernel-memory disclosure via notification size misvalidation
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in AppArmor notification handling in Canonical Ubuntu Linux 6.8, 6.17 and 7.0 allows local users to read kernel memory. The Ubuntu SAUCE code incorrectly validates the size of an internal notification structure, then reads beyond that structure into adjacent slab objects. An unprivileged local account can trigger the path without user interaction; the reported consequence is disclosure only, not memory modification or service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=6.17.0 <6.17.0-35.35
- Affected versionversion=6.8.0 <6.8.0-124.124
- Affected versionversion=7.0.0 <7.0.0-22.22

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
