Runtime crash via unbounded image group parsing
Published Jul 1, 2026 · Updated Jul 1, 2026
Uncontrolled resource consumption in affected containerd releases allows attackers to crash the runtime with a crafted container image. During container creation, unbounded parsing of attacker-controlled group-file entries allocates memory until the containerd process is OOM-killed. Attackers must be able to import an image or schedule a pod; exploitation takes the runtime API offline and disrupts Docker Engine or Kubernetes clients.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
