CVE-2026-47243Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Host-root code execution via absolute FUSE symlink

Published Aug 7, 2026 · Updated Aug 7, 2026

Path traversal in Kata Containers before 3.31.0 allows guest OS users with root access to execute commands as host root. The runtime-rs standalone virtio-fs configuration runs unsandboxed virtiofsd as host root and accepts an absolute name in a raw FUSE_SYMLINK request outside the shared directory. Exploitation requires root-equivalent guest access and the affected virtio-fs configuration; a root-owned host symlink can make cron run a guest-controlled payload.
