Account takeover via untyped reset email query
Published Jun 11, 2026 · Updated Jun 11, 2026
NoSQL injection in PenguinMod-BackendApi before 1.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to take over accounts through password reset. The reset route passes req.body.email without string coercion into getUsernameByEmail and verifyPasswordResetState MongoDB findOne queries, allowing an operator object to select another user. Exploitation requires a registered account and a valid reset token for that account; success changes the selected account's password and locks out its owner.
