User-assisted command execution via mpv option injection
Published May 21, 2026 · Updated May 21, 2026
Argument injection in IINA before 1.4.3 allows remote attackers to execute commands through a crafted iina://open URL. The AppDelegate URL handler strips the mpv_ prefix and passes input-commands values to player.mpv.setString without rejecting the command option, causing mpv to run the supplied executable. Exploitation requires a user to approve opening the custom URL; commands run with the current macOS user's privileges without a valid media file.
