CVE-2026-46748

Root privilege escalation via excessive Linux capability

Published Jun 9, 2026 · Updated Jun 9, 2026

Privilege escalation in Siemens SINEC INS before V1.0 SP2 Update 6 allows local users to gain root access and modify arbitrary files. The /opt/sinecins/bin/sinecINSsftp binary carries cap_dac_override and accepts an attacker-selected FTP configuration, so its process bypasses Linux discretionary access controls and reads or overwrites any system file. An unprivileged sinecins service account can launch the binary; root access follows by overwriting privileged account or scheduled-task files.
