CVE-2026-46579Network attack vector

mTLS bypass via unstripped X-SSL-Client headers

Published May 29, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Improper authentication in OpenShift Router in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform allows remote attackers to spoof mTLS identities via crafted HTTP requests. On Routes with insecureEdgeTerminationPolicy set to Allow, the HTTP frontend forwards attacker-supplied X-SSL-Client-* headers instead of stripping them before proxying to the backend. Exposure requires a route that accepts plain HTTP and a backend that trusts those headers as proof of client-certificate authentication, enabling identity impersonation rather than router compromise.
