Arbitrary file access via unsanitized backup identifiers
Published Jun 8, 2026 · Updated Jun 8, 2026
Path traversal in MVT Project Mobile Verification Toolkit before 2026.5.12 allows attackers to read or write local files via a crafted iOS backup. The mvt-ios decrypt-backup and check-backup commands use Manifest.db fileID values directly when constructing filesystem paths, allowing traversal outside the backup directory. Exploitation requires an analyst to process a malicious backup; writes are limited to process-writable paths, while reads require a matching parsable file.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
