Crash or memory disclosure via XCOFF relocation index

Out-of-bounds read in GNU Binutils BFD before 2.47 allows attackers to crash a vulnerable application or disclose memory via a crafted XCOFF file. The xcoff_ppc_relocate_section and xcoff64_ppc_relocate_section functions use the file-controlled r_type relocation value as an array index without adequate bounds validation. Exploitation requires a user or application to process the malicious object file; the resulting read can terminate that process or expose adjacent memory, but it does not provide a reported write primitive.
