Service disruption via unchecked SAR buffer append
Published Jul 24, 2026 · Updated Jul 24, 2026
Improper input validation in Apache NimBLE 1.9.0 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to disrupt Mesh Proxy processing. bt_mesh_proxy_msg_recv appends each SAR payload to role->buf without first checking buffer tailroom, allowing an overlong sequence to pass malformed data upward. Exposure requires an enabled, reachable Bluetooth Mesh GATT Proxy; the reported consequence is memory pressure and unstable parsing, not data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
