CVE-2026-46290

Unrecoverable hang via misclassified EFI page faults

Published Jun 8, 2026 · Updated Jun 8, 2026

Denial of service in Linux Kernel 6.15 through 6.18.29 and 6.19 through 7.0.6 allows local users to cause an unrecoverable hang. During EFI runtime calls, fpregs_lock() sets SOFTIRQ_OFFSET, causing efi_crash_gracefully_on_page_fault() to mistake task-context faults for interrupt-context faults and leave them unhandled. Exploitation requires an x86 system whose faulty EFI firmware raises a page fault during a runtime service call; the resulting panic hard-freezes the host.
