Local privilege escalation via hci_uart teardown races
Published Jun 8, 2026 · Updated Jun 8, 2026
Race conditions in Linux Kernel hci_uart lifecycle management allow local users to escalate privileges during Bluetooth TTY teardown. hci_uart_tty_close can free hu without cancelling queued work, while insufficient locking and teardown ordering permit later use-after-free and double-free operations. Exploitation requires local TTY control and CAP_NET_ADMIN, obtainable in a user namespace; successful triggering grants kernel-context execution or crashes the system.
