Kernel fault via released claim purge race
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
NULL-pointer dereference in batman-adv in Linux Kernel allows attackers to trigger a kernel fault during bridge-loop claim purging. batadv_bla_purge_claims() walks the claim hash under only an RCU read lock, so a parallel batadv_claim_put() can release a claim and clear backbone_gw before batadv_bla_claim_get_backbone_gw() dereferences it. The vulnerable path requires an active batman-adv mesh using bridge-loop avoidance and a claim-release race; published material does not identify the attacker-controlled action that wins the race.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
