Local hang or crash via premature SPI teardown
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Resource lifetime error in the Freescale SPI driver in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to hang or crash the system. The of_fsl_spi_remove() and plat_mpc8xxx_spi_remove() callbacks free CPM and DMA resources before unregistering the SPI controller, leaving registered code able to use released resources. The path requires local low-privileged access, an affected Freescale SPI controller, and driver unbind; no network trigger is involved.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
