Local kernel memory corruption via Iris teardown race
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Use-after-free in the Linux kernel Iris media driver 6.18 through 7.0.8 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through concurrent video sessions. iris_close() frees fmt_src and fmt_dst while the instance remains visible to an MBPF core-list walk that dereferences fmt_src dimensions under a different lock. The range also includes 7.1-rc1 through 7.1-rc2; exploitation requires low-privileged local access and parallel use of the Iris video path.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
