Local kernel memory corruption via tp_meter teardown race
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux Kernel batman-adv from 4.8 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through concurrent mesh teardown. The batadv_tp_start, batadv_tp_init_recv, and batadv_tp_meter_recv paths accept new sender or receiver sessions after mesh_state leaves BATADV_MESH_ACTIVE, leaving session work tied to freed mesh structures. Namespaced CAP_NET_ADMIN obtainable in a user namespace is required; successful exploitation can disclose or corrupt kernel memory or panic the host.
