Persistent syscall overhead via unmatched tracepoint registration
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Resource-management error in Linux Kernel allows local users to impose persistent syscall tracing overhead under memory pressure. In tracepoint_add_func(), failed func_add() execution after ext->regfunc() returns without the matching ext->unregfunc(), retaining registration side effects with no probe installed. Exploitation requires local tracepoint access and an allocation failure; syscall tracing then remains enabled for every task until reboot.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
