Denial of service via undersized HFS+ records
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Use of uninitialized data in the Linux Kernel allows local users to cause a denial of service by mounting a corrupted HFS+ filesystem. hfs_brec_read() accepts a catalog record shorter than its destination structure, leaving nodeName bytes uninitialized before case_fold() uses them as array indices. Exploitation requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN or equivalent mount authority; the source does not identify whether the interruption is a hang or crash.
