CVE-2026-46164

Kernel memory corruption via btrfs double free

Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026

Double free in the Linux Kernel btrfs subsystem allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through a kobject registration failure. On that failure path, kobject_put invokes space_info_release to free sub_group before create_space_info_sub_group frees the same object again. Reachability requires user interaction and the uncommon initialization failure; the bounded consequence is kernel-memory corruption.
