System hang via malformed USB audio descriptor
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Denial of service in affected Linux Kernel releases allows local users to hang the system via a malformed USB audio descriptor. In convert_chmap_v3() within sound/usb/stream.c, the parser advances its loop by cs_desc->wLength without first rejecting an undersized length. Exploitation requires local access and presentation of the malformed descriptor; a zero-length increment prevents loop progress and interrupts system availability.
