CVE-2026-46129

Kernel memory corruption via space-info cleanup double-free

Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026

Double-free memory corruption in the Linux Kernel Btrfs subsystem allows local users to corrupt kernel memory by mounting a Btrfs image. When kobject_init_and_add() fails, kobject_put() invokes space_info_release() to free space_info, but create_space_info() follows its error label and frees the allocation again. The gate requires permission to initiate the mount and attacker-influenced memory pressure; the documented consequences include kernel-data disclosure, control-flow hijacking, and kernel panic.
