Service interruption via unchecked BMC response length
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Improper response validation in the Linux Kernel IPMI system interface allows local users to interrupt service via a malformed BMC reply. handle_transaction_done reads msg->rsp[2] before confirming that the response is 19 bytes, so an empty success response from a BMC reaches later processing. Reachability requires the IPMI system-interface driver and a BMC that supplies the malformed event response; the published impact is service interruption.
