CVE-2026-46063

System hang via recursive mmap read locking

Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026

Improper locking in the Linux Kernel x86 shadow-stack signal-return path allows local users to hang the system during sigreturn. The shstk.c sigreturn path reads a user shadow-stack frame while holding mmap_lock; a page fault recursively requests the read lock while a writer is queued. Exploitation requires X86_USER_SHADOW_STACK, a faulting frame read, and a concurrent mmap writer, causing a system-wide availability loss without data disclosure or modification.
