CVE-2026-46054

Local authorization bypass via missing backing-file checks

Published May 27, 2026 · Updated Aug 26, 2026

Authorization bypass in Linux kernel SELinux OverlayFS handling allows local users to access protected backing files through mmap or mprotect. The mapping paths validate the visible upper file but omit required SELinux checks against the backing file and its mounter credentials. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and an OverlayFS configuration, permitting unauthorized file access or modification within that filesystem.
