Service interruption via leaked DAX device references
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Resource leak in Linux Kernel XFS allows local users to exhaust resources and interrupt service when buffer-target allocation fails. After xfs_alloc_buftarg obtains a DAX device reference, its sync_blockdev error path frees the buffer target without calling fs_put_dax. Reachability requires XFS on DAX-backed storage and execution of this error path; the documented consequence is availability loss.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
