Service interruption via malformed ext2 inode state
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux kernel ext2 driver allows local users to interrupt service through a crafted filesystem image. The ext2_iget() path accepts a corrupt inode with zero i_nlink, nonzero i_mode, and zero i_dtime, then passes it to the VFS. Unlink, rename, or rmdir on that inode reaches drop_nlink() and triggers a kernel warning; exploitation requires local access to use the image.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
