Service interruption via unfreed GPIB writes buffer
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Memory leak in the Linux kernel GPIB driver 6.13 through 6.18.13 and 6.19 through 6.19.3 allows local users to exhaust kernel memory. The ni_usb_init() error path returns after ni_usb_setup_init() fails without freeing the allocated writes buffer, while the helper incorrectly reports failure as success. Reachability requires a local user to repeatedly induce NI USB GPIB setup failures; the bounded effect is availability loss without data exposure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
