Local availability loss via device-node reference leak
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Resource leak in the Linux kernel thermal subsystem allows local users to reduce host availability through the affected thermal lookup path. thermal_of_cm_lookup() stores a device-node reference returned by of_parse_phandle() in tr_np without releasing it after the lookup. The record requires local low-privileged access but does not document the reachable trigger or exact failure mode, so the bounded consequence is availability loss.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
