Local kernel crash via deferred xHCI probe
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel cdns3 driver allows local users to crash the kernel during USB role switching on resume. During resume, cdns_host_resume calls usb_hcd_is_primary_hcd after start registers xhci-hcd but before its deferred probe creates the device. Reachability requires cdns3 dual-role USB hardware, suspension, a role change to host mode while suspended, and local access able to trigger the sequence; the observed consequence is a kernel Oops and service interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
