System crash via racy IRQ teardown
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
Use-after-free in the pm8916_bms_vm driver in Linux Kernel allows local users to crash the system during device removal. The driver requests its IRQ before registering the power_supply handle, so reverse devm cleanup frees that handle while the interrupt handler remains callable. Triggering removal requires root or CAP_SYS_ADMIN, and an interrupt must land in an attacker-uncontrollable race window; success causes a system crash or silent kernel-memory corruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
