Kernel panic via unchecked ISHTP client pointer
Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux Kernel allows local users to trigger a kernel panic during an ISHTP warm reset. The ishtp_bus_remove_all_clients function reads cl->device->reference_count without first checking whether cl->device is NULL. The race requires a warm reset while ISHTP clients are still being enumerated; successful triggering crashes the kernel without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
