CVE-2026-45864

Local system hang via ntfs3 infinite loop

Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026

Infinite loop in the Linux Kernel ntfs3 driver allows local users to hang the system during file writes on a mounted NTFS volume. The write path accepts a next valid offset equal to the current offset while scanning the valid-to-position range, so the loop makes no forward progress. The condition requires low-privileged local access and ntfs3 file-write activity; the observed consequence is a blocked task exceeding 143 seconds.
