Authenticated code execution via unguarded remote model loading
Published Jun 12, 2026 · Updated Jun 12, 2026
Code injection in Chroma ChromaDB 0.4.17 and later allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary server-side code. The update_collection path passes attacker-controlled sentence-transformer configuration to build_from_config(), which loads a named Hugging Face model with trust_remote_code enabled. UPDATE_COLLECTION permission and the Python server backend are required; successful exploitation runs the model repository's code in the server process.
