Arbitrary file overwrite via combined dataset commands
Published Sep 10, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Path traversal in Suricata before 7.0.16 and 8.0.0 through 8.0.4 allows remote authenticated users to overwrite arbitrary files. The dataset-rule parser lets a load command supply an absolute path that a paired save command then writes, bypassing the save-path restriction. Exploitation requires high-privilege rule-management access and a rule load or reload; writable scope is bounded by the Suricata process privileges and sandbox.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
