CVE-2026-45571Network attack vector

Out-of-checkout file modification via unchecked paths

Published May 27, 2026 · Updated May 27, 2026

Path traversal in go-git before 5.19.1 and go-git v6 before 6.0.0-alpha.4 allows attackers to modify files via crafted repositories. Checkout and submodule handling passed repository-controlled paths to the worktree filesystem without enforcing that resolved paths remained descendants of the checkout root. Exploitation requires processing a malicious repository; separate Storer and Worktree filesystems can isolate the main .git directory, but submodule metadata remains exposed.
