CVE-2026-45384Public exploit

Arbitrary file overwrite via predictable symlink temp path

Published Jun 10, 2026 · Updated Jun 10, 2026

File overwrite in bit7z before 4.0.12 allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files during in-place archive updates. BitOutputArchive::compressToFile appends .tmp to the archive path, and CFileOutStream opens that predictable path with truncation while following symlinks. Exploitation requires write access to the archive directory and a later update by a process able to write the target; compressed formats corrupt the target, while TAR permits parser-accepted content injection.
