Credential exposure via cleartext backup export
Published May 12, 2026 · Updated May 12, 2026
Cleartext credential storage in Sangoma Switchvox before 8.4 allows attackers with a backup file to extract SIP secrets. The .svb backup format contains a plaintext export of database data, including SIP trunk usernames and passwords, without encryption or obfuscation. Possession of an .svb file is required; extracted credentials can authenticate to an upstream carrier and enable PBX impersonation, toll fraud, call interception, or service disruption.
