Account takeover via attacker-controlled transcription extension
Published May 15, 2026 · Updated May 15, 2026
Stored XSS in Open WebUI before 0.9.3 allows remote authenticated users to steal session tokens through a crafted audio upload. The transcription endpoint preserves the filename extension without an allowlist, while the cache route derives text/html from that extension and serves the file inline. A verified user with the default-on chat.stt permission must induce another authenticated user to open the cached URL, enabling account takeover.
