Code execution via auto-approved cargo test
Published May 28, 2026 · Updated May 28, 2026
Code injection in Hmbown CodeWhale 0.3.0 through 0.8.22 allows remote attackers to execute code when a malicious repository is opened. The run_tests tool launches cargo test with ApprovalRequirement::Auto, so tests, build scripts, and proc macros execute without an approval prompt. Opening attacker-controlled repository content and inducing a test run is sufficient; executed code can read credentials, alter files, or establish persistence.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
