Unauthenticated SSH access via authorized-keys path traversal
Published Jul 17, 2026 · Updated Jul 17, 2026
Path traversal in Ron Frederick AsyncSSH before 2.23.0 allows remote attackers to gain SSH access via a crafted username. AuthorizedKeysFile %u expansion inserts the raw pre-authentication username into a key-file path and opens the result outside its configured directory. Exploitation requires public-key authentication, a %u-based key pattern, and a readable attacker-selected key file; success authenticates the traversal username.
