Local privilege escalation via mmap offset overflow
Published Jun 27, 2026 · Updated Jun 27, 2026
Integer overflow in FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE before p15, 14.4-RELEASE before p6, and 15.0-RELEASE before p10 allows local users to gain root. dsp_mmap_single() adds a user-supplied mapping offset and length without first preventing wraparound, then narrows the offset from 64 to 32 bits when deriving the buffer address. World-accessible /dev/dsp nodes and an audio device let an unprivileged local user map unrelated kernel memory for reading or writing, enabling full system compromise or a kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
