Improper access control in OpenClaw before 2026.4.23 allows attackers to persist unsafe Gateway configuration through compromised models. The config.apply and config.patch guard compares requested paths against a hand-maintained denylist that omits sensitive configuration subtrees. Exploitation requires a prompt-injected or otherwise compromised model with access to the owner-only gateway tool, and changes can alter execution, networking, credentials, or policy across restarts.
